The Hawaii Pacific Export Council will holds what it calls an Exporting Boot Camp next month for Hawaii businesspeople who want to sell overseas but don't know what's involved.
The Nov. 10 event will explain the rules of the game for people exporting physical products, software or intellectual property.
"This boot camp is not about sitting and listening," the council said Thursday. "Participants will walk away with a skeleton plan on how to begin exporting."
Export consultants Steve Craven of Kekepana International Services, a former U.S. commercial service officer, and Chuck Steilen, a marketing and exporting professor with Hawaii Pacific University and Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a marketing consultant to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, will spend a full day going over exporting planning with any participant after the boot camp.
Experienced local exporters Oils of Aloha, Simple Green and Pacific Stock Inc. will share their experiences. Bank of Hawaii economist Paul Brewbaker will start the program with an overview of exporting and entrepreneur Peter Kay will talk about his software exporting experience.
Exporting Boot Camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10, at Kapiolani Community College. Fee is $75 including both continental breakfast and lunch. For information: (808) 737-1904. The deadline for registration is Nov. 1.
